Two MPs for charity marathon

A 36-hour sport marathon in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund and the school council fund of Liceo Mikiel Anton Vassalli will be held on May 21 - 22 at the Junior Lyceum.

The marathon, being organised for the fourth consecutive year, will kick off on May 21 with Labour MP Carmelo Abela and Nationalist MP David Agius, who had both attended the lyceum, taking part in a duathlon challenge.

The two MPs will cycle from parliament to Qormi, where other former students will meet them, and together they will run the last part of the challenge to the school.

President Eddie Fenech Adami will officially open the marathon at 11 a.m. with the group Winter Moods performing during the ceremony.

Among the activities is a two-kilometre fun run with the participation of Liceo Vassalli students and others from various church, state and independent schools. A six-a-side football match with the participation of the lyceum's team and the Maltese national team will also be organised.

Other events include football and basketball tournaments, exhibition displays of Karate, wrestling and gymnastics. A PlayStation challenge is also being organised.

A Maltese evening is being organised on the first day at 7.30 p.m., with Maltese food and entertainment by well-known Maltese singers and personalities.

Scream Daisy will give a two-hour unplugged concert at the end of the marathon on Saturday.

Donations can be made through SMS on Go Mobile phones by texting 5070 5001 for a Lm1 donation and 5070 5002 to donate Lm2, until Friday May 31. Go Mobile subscribers will stand a chance of winning any of 10 prizes valued at over Lm30 each.

Sponsorship sheets can be obtained from Liceo Vassalli students. Sponsors can list their particulars and those who contribute Lm1 or more will automatically stand a chance of winning one of 25 prizes.
