Two new judges appointed

21 magistrates applied for the two vacancies

Two new judges have been appointed by the President of Malta following a public call earlier this year that attracted 21 applications.

Magistrates Claire Stafrace Zammit and Brigitte Sultana will serve as judges, the Office of the President said in a statement on Thursday. 

A call for applications was issued on January 30 for two vacancies.

For the first vacancy, the three short-listed candidates were Elaine Rizzo, Claire Stafrace Zammit and Brigitte Sultana. From that list, President Myriam Spiteri Debono selected Claire Stafrace Zammit.

Sultana and Rizzo were short-listed again for the second vacancy alongside Leonard Caruana. In this case, the president chose Sultana for the post.

In a statement announcing the appointments, the President congratulated the newly appointed judges and thanked the members of the Judicial Appointments Committee for the “meticulous work” they have carried out.
