Two charged with series of home burglaries after getaway car gives them away

Both arrested were while signing bail book

Two men have been charged with a string of burglaries after police identified the car used during the theft.

Joseph Attard and Roderick Zahra were on Friday accused of carrying out multiple burglaries in Santa Luċija, Żabbar, Xgħajra, Kalkara and Tarxien.

Police officer Christine Delia explained in court that the two were identified as they were linked to a Nissan Micra caught on CCTV footage in the vicinity of the targeted homes.

Since both were already subject to bail, the police arrested the two men on April 22 when they went to the police station to sign their bail book.

The two pleaded not guilty. No request for bail was filed.

Zahra and Attard are accused of carrying out four burglaries together, while Attard is also accused of a fifth burglary.

Lawyers Celine Fenech and Joseph Camilleri Azarov appeared for the Office of the Attorney General.

Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Christine Delia appeared for the Commissioner of Police.

Lawyers Amadeus Cachia and Christian Camilleri Ruggier represented Attard and Zahra respectively.

Magistrate Giannella Camilleri Busuttil presided over the arraignment.
