Two suspected drug dealers arrested in separate routine traffic stops
The two men were stopped in separate police checks on Wednesday night
Two men were arrested separately yesterday after routine traffic stops yielded the discovery of drugs allegedly being prepared for trafficking.
The first man, a 26-year-old from Żejtun, was arrested after appearing to throw something onto the back seat while being spoken to by traffic officers.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded suspected cannabis resin, MDMA, around 20 pills of suspected ecstasy and an as yet unidentified packet of pink powder, in addition to three mobile phones and cash.
Further searches of the man’s residence in Triq l-Isqof Antonia Zahra found grinders and bags containing fragments of suspected cannabis, cash and a replica firearm.
Photo: Communications Office, Malta Police Force.Meanwhile, a 21-year-old Birkirkara man was arrested during a traffic stop on the Mrieħel Bypass, after arousing the suspicion of officers who believed him to have illegal substances in the car.
A search of the man’s vehicle yielded suspected cannabis, cocaine, pink powder and a grinder.
The 26-year-old man is due to be arraigned before Magistrate Dr Elaine Rizzo later today, at around 1pm, while the Birkirkara man is expected to be arraigned in the coming days, police said.
