Milan, reeling from their dramatic defeat on penalties to Liverpool in the Champions League final, will have a big say today over which team takes Italy's fourth slot in Europe's top competition next season.

Carlo Ancelotti's Milan face a final day trip to Udinese who are in fourth place, one point ahead of challengers Sampdoria who are at Bologna.

Champions Juventus and runners-up Milan have already qualified for the group phase while third-placed Inter will go into the third qualifying round with Sampdoria or Udinese.

Udinese striker David Di Michele believes that Milan's shock defeat in Istanbul could work against his team's chances.

"I was very sad to see an Italian team lose and I have the feeling they will come to Udine full of anger," said the forward.

"I guess that their line-up will mainly feature those who didn't play in Istanbul, such as (Filippo) Inzaghi - players who will be twice as angry.

"Obviously if Milan had won the Cup then they would have turned up in Udinese in the middle of a party and we would have had an easier job in front of us.

"On the other hand, we are massively motivated for this game - much more so than they are," he added.

Sampdoria, European Cup finalists in 1992, will take fourth spot if they win and Udinese fail to pick up three points against Milan.

Walter Novellino's side face a hard task away to Bologna who are fighting to avoid relegation.

There will be a playoff over two legs if the two teams finish level on points, a scenario that will come about if Udinese lose and Sampdoria only draw.

The final day also sees an intense battle at the foot of the table with nine clubs fighting to avoid the two relegation places remaining to be filled after Atalanta went down with their defeat at home to Roma last week.

The other matches

Fiorentina vs Brescia - Having been forced to re-form and climb their way back to Serie A from the fourth level of Italian football, Fiorentina could make an immediate return to Serie B.

Fiorentina coach Dino Zoff has a full squad available but Brescia, also in danger of relegation, will be tough opponents - they have picked up 10 points from the last five games to crawl out of the bottom three.

Inter vs Reggina - Inter are already assured of third place and will have their minds more on June's two-legged Italian Cup final against Roma.

Reggina are three points off the relegation zone, meaning a draw would be enough to secure top flight football next season.

Juventus vs Cagliari - Juve, already champions, will use this final match with nothing at stake for either side as a chance to say farewell to defender Ciro Ferrara who is ending his playing career after 500 Serie A appearances and a record eight league titles.

The match could also be the final appearance for Cagliari's Gianfranco Zola.

The 38-year-old former Chelsea forward and ex-Italy international will decide after the game if he is to extend his career by another season.

Lecce vs Parma - Neither side can go into this game secure of their Serie A status although a point would be enough for Lecce.

Parma, who have struggled all season despite reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, need a win to make sure they stay up.

Messina vs Livorno - Nothing but pride at stake for either of these clubs who have done well back in Serie A after lengthy absences.

The main talking point is whether Livorno striker and captain Cristiano Lucarelli can maintain his position as top scorer in Serie A. The former Torino forward has 23 goals with Parma's Alberto Gilardino one less.

Palermo vs Lazio - Lazio need a draw from this game to be certain of Serie A survival while Palermo will celebrate their qualification for the UEFA Cup.

The match could also be a farewell for Palermo coach Francesco Guidolin, widely reported to be leaving in summer despite the success enjoyed with the Sicilians.

Roma vs Chievo - Roma's win at Atalanta last week finally ended any fears of relegation but Chievo are still in trouble.

Francesco Totti's five-match suspension is over so the Roma captain is expected to return for the final match.

Siena vs Atalanta - Of all the teams facing the drop, Siena have the easiest game against already relegated Atalanta but they must win as a draw might bring a playoff or the drop.
