The UHM has ordered industrial action at Mepa, saying that it is protesting against the management's 'arrogant' attitude to the workers, its attempts to reduce the workers' rights, and attempts to transfer workers from Mepa to other institutions, as part of the Mepa reform process, without consultation and agreement with the union.

The union said that while some long-standing problems had been discussed with the management and solutions had been agreed, they had not been implemented.

It said that the workers had unanimously agreed to take immediate industrial action.

The workers were therefore being directed not to answer the phone or reply to emails; not to carry out any photocopying or binding services; not to give services from the mapping shop and not to process financial transactions.

They were also ordered not to issue compliance certificates, not to hold meetings with the Mepa board, the Development Control Commissions, the public, professionals, representatives of public entities and the government.

The workers are also not to process any applications under the CITES directive.

The industrial action will remain in force until agreement is reached on the reform process and the attitude of the management towards the workers individually and collectively, the union said.
