The UK charity Family Holiday Association (FHA) will be fielding a team of 19 runners in the 2008 Malta Marathon/Half Marathon tomorrow.
Most of the runners are members of the UK travel industry.
The team, supported by the Malta Tourism Authority and Belleair Holidays, hopes to raise around £10,000 to help the charity give children and families experiencing difficult circumstances the chance to enjoy a break away.
John McDonald, FHA director, said that the runners were really excited about the opportunity to run in Malta to raise funds for FHA.
The family holiday helps families in desperate circumstances including those dealing with disability, bereavement, poverty, mental health problems, inadequate housing or abuse.
The chance to enjoy a break away from the stresses of daily life is something that many take for granted, but thousands of UK children have never had the chance to enjoy a holiday.
A family granted an FHA break spends a week in one of the association's caravans in a UK seaside town.
