UK pilots dominate at air rally

Carl Lycett from the UK has been declared the overall winner of the 2003 International Air Rally of Malta held over the weekend.

He received the Falcon Trophy from Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech at the Corinthia San Gorg on Tuesday.

The runner-up was Michael Dugdale, also from the UK.

The Bank of Valletta arrival competition winner was Peter Reed from the UK who was followed by Carl Lycett. Horst Kamp from Germany placed third.

The times section winner was Michael Blondeau from France.

The flight planning competition was won by Eric Lomax also from the UK while Michel Blondeau followed in second place.

The George Cross competition was won by Keiko Bienek from Germany.

Rose Marie Kissaun, wife of air rally chairman George Kissaun, presented the Kissaun Trophy to Mr Lycett.

The highest scoring aircraft in the Concours d'Elegance was owned by Eric Lomax with the second place going to Mr Bienek.

The winners for the Aeroclub Competition were the Solent Flying Club which participated in the rally for the first time.

Close second were Aeroclub du Daphine.

Michael Dugdale from Solent Flying Club won the Lindberg on the Eagle trophy.
