UK tabloids hot off the local press

You could be digesting the contents of the Daily Express while you eat your breakfast this morning rather than having to pick it up from the newsagent's in the evening and swallowing it with your supper.

The tabloid newspaper, known for its sensational treatment of news and its thorough coverage of international events, may be published in London but it has not been flown in from the UK.

Since last week, it is being printed in Malta by Progress Press, a sister company of Allied Newspapers Ltd, which also publishes The Times, The Sunday Times and a host of magazines.

The Daily Mirror will also be printed by Progress Press, making it available by the morning from this week, said Progress Press sales manager Joseph Bonnici.

It also means the potential to sell more by opening up a 12-hour window. Consumers have a whole day to buy the paper rather than between 6 and 7 p.m., when the shops close.

The project is another milestone for the organisation, Mr Bonnici said.

The largest printing press in Malta, Progress Press also offers the broadest spread of printing services available.
