I refer to a letter by Saviour Cachia of Marsascala entitled Customer Rights

Mr Cachia has taken Maltapost to task for failing to reply to his first letter to The Times. Mr Cachia is right and we would like to apologise for this lapse on our part.

With regard to his complaint that a cheque sent by him to the Joint Office has allegedly not been delivered, we have to point out that as the letter in question was an ordinary mail item (as opposed to a registered item), regrettably there is no way Maltapost can trace whether and on which date it was delivered. No postal administration anywhere keeps track of unregistered items, for obvious reasons.

However, without beating about the bush, the possibility will always exist that either this item was delivered correctly, as addressed, and possibly misplaced at addressee's end, or it may have been delivered to a wrong address. In the latter event, although we advise recipients of wrongly delivered mail to re-post, sadly this advice is not always followed.

However, I would like to assure Mr Cachia it was never our intention to ignore his original letter. Once again, apologies are in order.
