Nursing aides have been directed not to do any work at the Floriana home for the elderly unless there is continuous surveillance by a nurse, the General Workers' Union said yesterday.
The union said that during night duty a nursing aide who was supposed to be a reliever was being left without assistance as a result of a "grossly irresponsible" decision by the Department for the Elderly.
The union stressed that the situation was "unacceptable" and the management was not considering the seriousness of this issue or the repercussions it could have.
