Union boycotts parties

The General Workers' Union has decided to boycott any parties organised by the government, in solidarity with civil service staff whose Christmas parties were cancelled.

The union said the cancellation was a clear sign that whenever anything needed to be done, it was always the workers who bore the brunt of it, rather than those who could most shoulder the burden.
