Union directive suspended

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday said it had suspended the directive given to kindergarten assistants working at St Miguel School in which it instructed them not to lift children who were too heavy for them.

The UHM's general services section said it took the decision after it learned that the school, which caters for children with disability, would provide a handler to help the kindergarten assistants.

As a result of the action, 46 children aged between four and 19, had to wear dirty nappies for an entire day.

The problem surfaced last year but a temporary solution was found with the assistance of the National Commission for Persons with a Disability and two men were loaned to the school.

However, the two handlers had since left.
