Fourteen trade union leaders have taken an oath to confirm that at a meeting with the Malta Resources Authority last Friday, they were told that the utility tariffs would be revised retroactively to October 1.

The union leaders, representing 11 trade unions, included GWU General Secretary Tony Zarb, his deputy Geitu Mercieca, MUT President John Bencini and MUMN President Paul Pace.

They reiterated their call for the regulator to resign for denying what was said at the meeting.

Meanwhile, a GRTU delegation yesterday also had a meeting with the MRA where it protested over the way the tariffs were drawn up.

GRTU Director-General Vince Farrugia said the model used for the new tariffs was wrong, and negatively affected SMEs. He also critiised the authority over the way it had acted over this issue.
