Over the years, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) has repeatedly admitted to making mistakes.
In reality they are unpardonable blunders.
Committees and individuals deserve severe condemnation for acting irresponsibly.
They have caused irreparable damage to pristine countryside, to unique rural villages, to picturesque coastlines, to virgin valleys, indeed to the treasured Maltese environment.
Unashamedly and blindly, they do not heed the vociferous pleas and deliberate warnings of NGOs. Unlike Mepa's committee members, NGOs earn no stipends, no remuneration, no fat salaries. Their pride and joy is voluntary service.
On the other hand, these Mepa sinners do not mind being 'named and shamed' for persistent ignorance or misunderstanding of natural laws.
They are immune to the persistent censures in the media.
They need to learn a lesson.
I do not believe in imprisonment. Perhaps some form of deterrent or even punishment will reinforce their rehabilitation.
This experimental panacea may make them repent and avoid making more 'mistakes'.
I suggest community service under the supervision of NGOs that pride themselves on protecting valleys against all forms of rural pollution and irreversible blunders.
