I own a Land Rover 90 and I am now using bio-diesel, mainly out of concern for the environment. It has been proved that bio-diesel is biodegradable, non-toxic, free from sulphur and carcinogenic substances. It is produced from residual cooking oil. It may be used in compression-ignition diesel engines requiring no modifications with the result of much lower toxic emissions compared to the conventional diesel.
The current price is 32c4 per litre, 2c lower than the same equivalent of standard diesel. The Edible Oil Refinery Company Ltd produces bio-diesel and are currently holding discussions to introduce a fuel pump for bio-diesel at local petrol stations.
I feel that 2c is not much of an incentive when one has to consider going all the way to Edible Oil to refuel. I suggest that the government seriously consider subsidising this fuel by 10c a litre. Only then can motorists really start using bio-diesel, reducing air pollution and not endangering our health.
