The Malta waterpolo selection under the name of Valletta were handed a very tough draw in the LEN Challenger Cup when they were drawn to face Turkish giants Galatasaray in the two-legged quarter-finals.

Milan Cirovic’s men created history last Friday when they became the first Maltese selection to progress to the second phase of a LEN competition after placing second in the qualifying group that was played at the National Pool.

The Maltese youngsters sealed their qualification in the most dramatic of fashions when they overcame Turkish champions ENKA 14-10 with Alec Fenech netting the all-important goal that propelled the team through on a better goal difference.

Valletta will host Galatasaray in the opening leg at the National Pool on November 25 before travelling to Turkey for the second leg on December 9.
