Residents of a block of flats in City Gate, Valletta filed a judicial protest in the First Hall of the Civil Court demanding that the planned installation of a mobile phone antenna on their building should not be allowed.

The protest was filed against the Commissioner of Lands as owner of the block in question.

They said Vodafone Malta Ltd would be installing the cellular phone antenna on the apartment block's rooftop. The Commissioner of Land had either negotiated an agreement with Vodafone over the antenna or at least approved the equipment's installation without making any objections to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

The residents said they had neither been consulted nor had they given their consent to the installation of the antenna which could have repercussions, including on their health.

The antenna, they added, could easily be installed on other places nearby without causing any inconveniences or dangers.

In addition, they said, just as they had been ignored so also other residents of flats owned by the government in other localities could be ignored.

The judicial protest was signed by Dr Josè Herrera and Dr David Camilleri.
