The Valletta Rehabilitation Committee said it was spending more than Lm320,000 on the upgrading of lower and upper Barrakka gardens and Hastings garden in Valletta.

Work on the replacement of a boundary wall at Hastings garden was at an advanced stage, the committee said.

The work is being handled by Kalaxlokk company under the direction of Vince Centorrino of the Construction and Maintenance Departments of the Works Division.

At the Lower Barrakka, the monument to Sir Alexander Ball had been restored and new toilets and a security system installed, but the main tender for works on that garden had been delayed due to various bureaucratic problems.

A tender for structural works at the Upper Barrakka has been awarded and other tenders will be awarded shortly.
