The HSBC Cares For Children Fund is supporting Fondazzjoni Suret il-Bniedem, which has just set up a refuge in Valletta for women.
The refuge will initially house six persons, inclusive of both women and their children. Eventually, the home will be able to house 34 persons. The facilities at this new home will be aimed primarily at helping children from broken marriages to deal with their experiences of conflict within the home.
Thanks to the support being provided by the HSBC Cares For Children Fund, special attention will also be paid to teaching these children who may have lived through difficult family situations, to trust, communicate and play with others.
In addition to providing residential care for both women and children, the home will offer a day-care drop-in centre offering advice and support. Specialised services will also be available to young women who are pregnant and find themselves in difficulty when no family support is forthcoming.
