Ghajnsielem council has condemned the recent vandal acts on the prehistoric temple ta' l-Imrejzbiet when used oil was thrown on some of the temple's large stones.

The act, the council said, showed the lack of public knowledge on the value of such an archaeological site. The council appealed to the authorities to take action against those who were responsible.

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority has included the site in the list of Class A scheduled properties following the council's advice.

In May, 1998, the council had approved a resolution calling on the education minister to authorise an excavation exercise in the area, under the supervision of the Museum's Department.
