Veteran actress and broadcaster Mary Grech, who was one of Malta's first TV announcers, has died at the age of 88.
Her son Josef N Grech confirmed her death in a post on Facebook, where he said she had taught him how to face life with courage.
"The last three years have not been easy on you, but we faced them together, and I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be by your side every step of the way.
"Above all, I am so blessed to have had you as my mother and I am forever grateful for all you have done," he said.
Born on May 2, 1937, Grech started her career aged 14, when she joined Ġużeppina Attard Montalto's group known as Liliputtjani.
In the early 1960s, she was chosen from among 2,000 as an announcer on Malta Television, together with Charles Abela Mizzi.
Her husband, veteran actor Victor Grech, died aged 96 in 2023.
In a statement, the chairman and management of Teatru Manoel said she would be remembered "for her essential contribution to broadcasting in Malta".
"Mary always distinguished herself as an outstanding presenter and actress, and, among other roles, took part in many productions staged at Teatru Manoel," the national theatre said on Instagram.
