One of Malta's best known businessmen, Albert Mizzi, has passed away.

Mr Mizzi is particularly remembered as the long serving chairman of Air Malta but he was also one of Malta's earliest hoteliers, having been behind the building of Mellieha Bay Hotel. He was also involved in real estate (Santa Maria Estate was among his first projects) manufacturing and food imports.

Mr Mizzi, 87, was also chairman of the Midi group, Sea Malta, MiddleSea Insurance, Mizzi Associated Enterprises, HSBC Malta, Plaza Centre plc, Consolidated Biscuits Company Ltd and Supermarkets (1960) Ltd.

The government and the Labour and Nationalist parties, the Chamber of Commerce, the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association, the Malta Developers Association and HSBC expressed their condolences.

The government praised Mr Mizzi as a visionary and praised him for his contribution to the country under different governments.
