Victoria council takes part in Youth Empowerment Programme

Victoria council was selected by the Ministry for Youth and Arts to take part in the Youth Empowerment Programme, which was launched last week in the ministry in Valletta.

Mayor Vivienne Galea Pace told The Sunday Times that the aim of the programme is to help Victoria's youngsters advance in their studies and develop their talents, while integrating more fully in the locality.

It also aims to provide legal aid, counselling and assistance in career decisions while collaborating with other NGOs to further local and international sports, cultural, social and educational activities. Youth exchanges with foreign groups to help in the advancement of youth's needs will also be organised.

The joint venture between the Victoria Council and the Ministry's Youth Section will enable tomorrow's generation to develop and apply their talents in every sphere of today's world, she said. The mayor also explained that the local council has provided premises and computers for counselling and research.

Should the need arise, the council, the only one in Gozo to take part in this initiative, will also provide financial assistance, following the council's approval, for any project the youth worker may need to organise.

The ministry's Youth Section will also pay Lm1,200 per year for a part-time youth worker, and monitor the programme's operation to ensure that each project will proceed smoothly and be a success.
