Victoria Hotspurs 7

Xaghra United vs Victoria Hotspurs was widely considered as a relegation six-pointer, especially for the former who needed to win at all cost to rekindle their fading hopes.

On their part, Victoria Hotspurs would have been satisfied with a draw but their experience and determination to maintain their record of being the only team in Gozo never to be relegated, saw them through.

Victoria's dominance was evident from the early stages but they had to wait until the 40th minute to open the scoring. It was Joe Falzon who struck the opener with a low drive. During additional time of the first half, Simon Sultana floored Victoria's Isaac Mopi in the area.

The referee showed the red card to Sultana and ordered a penalty, which was converted by Michael Vella.

Mopi scored two goals early in the second half to put Victoria 4-0 ahead.

Xaghra were demoralised and just past the hour, Victoria were awarded another penalty for a foul by Joseph Sultana on substitute Xerri.

Noel Borg completed formalities from the spot to make it 5-0. In the final stages, Victoria's substitute Kim Said scored two other goals for his side in the 83rd and 85th minutes to complete Xaghra's rout.

Referee: Anton Zammit.
