On February 22 every year, the Scout Movement worldwide celebrates the birthday of its founder, Lord Baden-Powell. The Victoria Scout Group marked this occasion by holding several activities opening its programme of events to commemorate 100 years of Scouting in Malta.
Yesterday week all the sections within the group met at headquarters for a joint activity including various tasks undertaken by no fewer than 100 boys who were divided in eight teams. Medals were awarded to the winning team. On the following day, a church parade and Mass were held at St Francis church, Victoria.
Brian Beek, chairman of the Fellowship of Brownsea Island, and Peter Neville, a Scouter from the UK, were special guests for this occasion.
Mgr Joseph Farrugia, the group chaplain, welcomed the prospective leaders and the young members of the newly set-up Xagħra Scout Group.
After Mass an investiture ceremony was held on the church parvis.
