Victoria's traffic problems have been on the agenda for years. Each summer with the influx of thousands of visitors the congestion in the streets of Gozo's capital is unbearable. Studies upon studies have been conducted and even traffic lights installed temporarily to no avail. In the meantime the problem gets more acute and air pollution is on the increase.

One need not be a traffic expert to realise that the core of the problem lies with the one kilometre or so stretch from the lower end of Enrico Mizzi Street to Savina Square. To this one needs to mention the lack of parking space available.

Both these problems can be improved considerably by making both Enrico Mizzi Street and Republic Street one way, with traffic moving uphill and a multi-parking place built near the bus terminus.

On the other hand, public transport should be improved by introducing a mini-coaches service and village pick-ups for workers so that daily workers getting into Victoria are encouraged to make use of it or they can share the means of transport with other colleagues.
