The Marsa incinerator, which started operating a year ago, will be handed over to WasteServ in the coming weeks after certification by consultants. It is currently run by the suppliers.

Vince Magri, WasteServ CEO, said that the plant would soon be generating its own electricity through the installation of a mechanism that would generate energy from steam. Surplus electricity will be fed into the power grid.

Mr Magri, in the video above, explains how the incinerator works and how it has been adjusted to take hospital waste along with waste from the abatoir.
