The Astronomical Society of Malta will be setting up telescopes to enable the public to view Mars during a public observation session at Ghar id-Dud (in front of Preluna Towers) in Sliema on Monday at 8.30 p.m.

The activity is part of the society's second Astronomy Week being held from Monday to August 31.

The society will be focusing on Mars which this year will be closest to earth for the past 60,000 years, the society said.

The aim of the week is to promote interest in the science of astronomy.

Activities being organised during the week include public lectures about Mars and various observation sessions.
