Aston Villa beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0 on Saturday for a club record seventh consecutive away league victory to stay firmly in the Premier League title race.

James Milner's powerful strike put Villa in front before halftime and Gabriel Agbonlahor sealed the points in the last minute as Villa moved above Chelsea, who drew 0-0 at home to Hull City, into third place.

Everton remained sixth with an impressive 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Goodison Park and Craig Bellamy scored his second goal since joining Manchester City to earn his side a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.

Newcastle United eased their relegation fears with a 3-2 win at bottom club West Bromwich Albion and mid-table Wigan Athletic and Fulham played out a 0-0 draw. Stoke City's 2-0 defeat at Sunderland meant the bottom three all lost.

Liverpool can reclaim top spot later on Saturday with victory at struggling Portsmouth with leaders Manchester United, who are two points clear, not in action until Sunday at West Ham United.
