The Maltese Association of Social Workers expressed its concern for and solidarity with those women who are currently facing or have experienced some form of violence.

In a message for the UN Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women, marked yesterday, the association said that unfortunately domestic violence still remained one of the highest and unacceptable forms of violence against women in the community.

Social workers working within the domestic violence team of Agenzija Appogg knew too well the kind of adverse effect this could leave not just on women but also on their children.

The association also condemned any form of violence on women and called upon the authorities to provide the necessary legal framework to those social workers offering professional help to such women and also, most importantly, society at large to join forces so as to implement effective approaches in the elimination of violence against women.
