Vodafone Malta Limited has announced it will be supporting the MKSU (Moviment Kattoliku Studenti Universitarji) as a corporate sponsor during the 2002/2003 academic year.
This support will aid the MKSU to carry out its numerous projects this year as one of the leading organisations on campus. MKSU is a non-profit student organisation at the University of Malta, representing Catholic students on campus.
As one of the oldest organisations, the MKSU is both well established and dynamic. In its activities throughout the year, it promotes Christian values among University students, with particular emphasis on initiatives in social commitment.
"We have several ambitious projects planned for this year, both with the University Chaplaincy with whom we have an excellent working relationship as well as with the other student organisations, and with Vodafone's support we will be able to carry them out successfully," Simon Bartolo, MKSU president, said.
"MKSU members come from different University courses and, apart from being in touch with the different realities across the University campus, MKSU is also enhanced by having a wide spectrum of ideas and approaches.
"Our aim is to allow the student to get in touch with the integral dignity within both himself and his or her fellow students, so present, but so often hidden among other aspects."
Activities the MKSU plans this year include 'Politicians for Peace', which sees members from all political parties come together in a symbolic but interesting activity on campus to promote peace in our time; 'Organ Donation - Blood Drive - Concert' in which students will be encouraged to donate blood and enlist for organ donation; and 'Help Me Grow', which will encourage students to become aware of the social reality of orphans, adoption and fostering in Malta.
The organisation will hold the annual student leaders' retreat in conjunction with the Millennium Chapel and a week-long Lenten activity on campus.
MKSU has the patronage of President Guido de Marco, who is extremely supportive of its activities.
"MKSU is actively involved in promoting the awareness of social issues among University students," Deborah Vassallo, marketing communications executive at Vodafone Malta Ltd, said.
"Vodafone is proud to contribute its support for the organisation's forthcoming activities, since they are very much akin to the values Vodafone actively promote both locally and worldwide."
