Former Germany coach Berti Vogts is to take charge of Nigeria's national team, the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) said yesterday.

"Vogts has agreed to coach the Nigerian national team. He was chosen as the most suitable man to handle the Super Eagles," NFA official Tunde Aderibigbe told Reuters.

Vogts, who led Germany to victory at Euro 96 and also had spells in charge of Kuwait and Scotland, will take over on March 1 on a contract running until 2010, the German Bild newspaper reported.

Vogts will take over from Augustin Eguavoen, who took Nigeria to third place at the African Nations Cup in Egypt last February but failed to get them into the 2006 World Cup.
