Mgr joseph Farrugia, archpriest of St George's Basilica, presented a volume, which compiles the 12 periodicals on St George, to Bishop Nikol Cauchi and a number of special guests during a concert by the Ampleforth Abbey Choir at St George's Basilica.
A copy of the volume was also presented to Ampleforth Abbey Choir director Ian Little.
Mgr Farrugia, who teaches at both major theological faculties in Malta and Gozo, is co-editor of the volume with university student Michael Formosa. Seminarian Francesco Pio Attard, a member of the editorial board, introduced the presentation.
Those present included Speaker Anton Tabone, Victoria mayor Vivienne Galea Pace, La Stella Band Club president Dolindo Cassar, Professor Joseph Vella and other personalities, including those who contributed to the volume.
The St George's Basilica clergy and Benedictine monk Fr Gabriel Everett, headmaster of Ampleforth College, who was accompanying the choir during its visit to Malta, were also present.
Entitled San Gorg, the volume offers a compilation of contributions, in Maltese and English, on the great martyr.
Apart from Mgr Farrugia, the editorial board was also made up of Michael Formosa, secretary; Fr George J. Frendo, Antoine Vassallo, Joseph Borg, Dr Paul George Pisani, Francesco Pio Attard and Fr Tonio Galea. The board garnered the collaboration of scholars and academics, both local and foreign, to offer the people of these islands a regular publication that is now a hard bound volume.
Mgr Farrugia ended the presentation by congratulating the people who had worked on the book and who had successfully solicited the collaboration of so many expert and eminent contributors.
Subscribers to the periodical are invited to take their collected issues to the Parish Office, where they can buy a copy of the book, which normally costs Lm15 for Lm5.
