Voting guidelines for hospital patients
Relatives will not be able to visit patients on hospital polling day on Thursday
The Electoral Commission has appealed to relatives of patients at Mater Dei Hospital, Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre, Mount Carmel and Gozo General Hospital to ensure patients are in possession of their voting documents.
The measure covers patients admitted to those facilities by 6pm on Monday.
The commission noted that holding a voting document belonging to another person effectively denied them the ability to vote, a criminal offence subject to imprisonment, a fine or both.
It added that polling day would take place in hospitals on Thursday, May 28, when visitors would not be allowed. Permits may be issued for relatives of seriously ill patients, however, at the discretion of the commission.
