During a general election or a referendum, only cast votes should be taken into consideration. The vote of people who abstain or decline from going to vote, or worse still, the vote of people who refrain from casting their vote even though they would be present in the polling booth, should never be taken into consideration.

People who are in a position to vote but choose not to participate only do so because they are indifferent as to the result/outcome.

In my opinion the leader of the opposition was indifferent as to what the outcome of the referendum was going to be. For, if he was in favour, he should have voted yes, and if he was against he should have voted no. Since he did not cast his vote it means that any result suited him fine.

All other interpretations and calculations are superfluous and a total waste of time.
