The new VW Tiguan, the compact 4x4 SUV, was launched in Malta by local agents Continental Cars and is available to order now.
VW's new Tiguan is the first SUV in the world to come with charged engines. The advantage is more power, less fuel consumption, and lower emissions. There will be two new TSIs - direct injection petrol engines with turbocharging or turbocharging plus supercharging: the innovative 1.4 TSI (with twin charger) and 150 PS powers the petrol version. Completely redeveloped and a new generation of noticeably quieter common rail four-cylinder diesel engines are being employed here.
The TDI's output is 103 kW/140 PS which smashes the Euro-5 emissions standard.
Its face and side profile are immediately recognisable as different from all existing models in the range. At the rear, the lights are integrated into the shoulder section similar to those on the Eos and Passat, while the steeply sloping tailgate extends right down to the bumpers, giving the new Tiguan an unmistakably SUV design.
Powerful contours lend the Tiguan an athletic overall character. Its design transfers the mastery of the Touareg to another class. Maintaining the 'baby Touareg' appearance, the new Tiguan makes a distinctive style statement. At 4.4 metres long, 1.85 metres wide and 1.69 metres high, it is very similar in size to the Touran compact MPV.
Inside, there are high grade materials, clear, distinctive lines and numerous stowage facilities in the roof, the doors and under the seats. The two sections of the asymmetrically divided rear bench seat can be moved independently. The backrests of the rear bench seat and of the front passenger seat can also be folded down.
The Tiguan also takes care of the minor details of everyday driving. The Parkpilot and Parkassist options have ultrasound sensors which recognise suitable parking spaces as the car is driven past them. Engage reverse gear and the system will steer the vehicle automatically into the space - motorists just have to operate the accelerator, clutch and brake. A high resolution display in the centre console is additional support when parking. The parking procedure can be observed even more closely with the optional Rearassist reversing camera.
