Highlights of events in the coming days

MUSIC

Malta Jazz Festival

The Malta Jazz Festival, produced by Festivals Malta, will be held between July 6 and 11 across venues in Valletta and Floriana. The festival will culminate at the historic Ta’ Liesse church in Valletta, with the city’s Grand Harbour as its backdrop. 

The main events are:

Keeping Time: The documentary, written by Ġużè Camilleri and directed by Cedric Vella, will be shown at Valletta Campus Theatre (Ex-MITP), Merchants Street, before the opening concert on July 6 at 7.30pm, and at the Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS), Floriana, before and after the concerts on July 7 to 9.

• Opening concert: Dominic Galea Quartet with a tribute to Maltese jazz composers on July 6, at Valletta Campus Theatre at 8pm.

• Vincent Bourgeyx Trio on July 7 at MICAS, Floriana, at 8pm.

• Guilhem Flouzat on July 8, at MICAS at 8pm.

• Tinto Brass Band from July 9 to 11, roaming Valletta’s streets from 7 to 11pm.

• Toninho Horta 4tet, Seamus Blake, Mathias Allamane, Jeff Ballard on July 9, at MICAS at 8pm.

• Children’s concert: A family-friendly introduction to jazz, exploring styles such as waltz, swing, blues and bossa nova through storytelling and interactive performance, featuring Mariele Zammit (voice) and Kris Spiteri (piano) on July 11, at the Malta Society of Arts, Republic Street, Valletta from 11am to noon.

• The main event at Ta’ Liesse, Xatt il-Barriera, Valletta, on July 10 and 11 from 8pm to midnight. ĦOSS Project, Aaron Parks Trio and Ghost-Note will perform on July 10, while July 11 will see the Daniel Sant Trio, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Terri Lyne Carrington, featuring Christie Dashiell.

Michael Bublé live in concert

Global superstar and multi-award winner Michael Bublé will be performing live at the Ta’ Qali Picnic Area, Attard, on July 8. 

The Canadian singer/songwriter is known for hits like Haven’t Met You Yet, Feeling Good and Home, and the hugely popular holiday album Christmas.

Victoria International Arts Festival

The month-long festival continues with a performance by Céline Dussaud (violoncello) and Jean-Sébastien Taillefer (piano) at the Aula Mgr G. Farrugia on July 6. The same hall will host a recital by Andrea Gajic (violin) and Liivi Arder (piano) on July 7. Both concerts start at 8.30pm.

Djordje Gajic will present a piano accordion recital at St Augustine church on July 8 at 8pm.

On July 9 at 8pm, the 800th death anniversary  of St Francis will be commemorated at St Francis church with a talk by Simone Kotva, followed by a recital by Maria Frendo (piano), Natascha Chircop (flute) and Jacob Portelli (harp).

A piano quartet will perform a programme of Schubert works at the Aula Mgr G. Farrugia on July 10 at 8.30pm. On July 11, the Auric Saxophone Quartet will then play at the Bishops’ Curia courtyard at 7pm, and the La Stella Philharmonic Band, led by John Galea, will perform in St George’s Square at 8.30pm. Motown and Soul

The Malta Concert Orchestra, under the direction of Joe Brown, is dedicating a concert to Motown and soul music at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta, on July 10 at 8.30pm. 

Singers Mike Spiteri, Kersten Graham, Laura Bruno and Janice Debattista will also perform.

The Grand Anniversary Concert – Malta Police Band

The third edition of The Malta Police Force Grand Anniversary Concert is being held at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta, on July 11 at 8pm.

THEATRE

Ġimgħa l-Ħabs

Teatru Malta’s new production, Ġimgħa l-Ħabs, is based on true historical events and real police logs from 1825. 

It follows Maddalena Mallia, a woman who is condemned to spend a week in prison. Inside, she joins eight other female inmates spinning cotton on a machine under the watchful eye of guards.

The play is written by Chantelle Micallef Grimaud and directed by Chiara Hyzler, with original music by The New Victorians.

It is being staged at the Republic Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, on July 6 and 7 at 8pm. The show is suitable for an audience aged over 15. Tickets from showshappening.com.


FILM

Għall-Erwieħ Underground Film Festival

A one-evening screening of analogue experimental film is taking place for the first time at the Valletta Contemporary art gallery in East Street, Valletta, on July 11 from 7pm. 

GĦEUFF, curated by Julian Micallef, will screen a selection of films, each highlighting an integral component of the medium’s material presence and experimental capability. It will include work by analogue film-makers from Malta and beyond.

DANCE

Kinetic Dance Academy is holding its annual dance spectacle at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta, on July 11 and 12.

The show will see over 500 dancers of all ages performing across a dynamic range of styles, including classical ballet, modern jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and aerial arts.

Dance College Studios Annual Show 2026

Students of the Dance College Studios of Msida will be presenting their annual show at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta, on July 11 and 12 at 8pm.

The event will also see the participation of the Dansworks Dance Academy from the UK.

Monumental

RIDM Academy (formerly RIDM Dance Company) is bringing together their in-house dancers, aerialists and gymnasts for their major summer production, taking place at St Agatha’s Auditorium in Rabat on July 10 and 11 at 7pm.

Malta Fashion Week and Fashion Awards

Maltese designers are presenting their latest creations during Malta Fashion Week 2026, being held at Biskuttin Gardens, Valletta, between July 6 and 9.

The participants are James Dimech, Oana Queen’s Lane Couture, Unikimono, and Vanusia Hair Design on July 6; MCAST 1, MCAST 2, Aisling Guidera and Isaac Fenech on July 7; Plan B Experience, L’Otoole, Emane Penda Francky and Parascandalo on July 8 and Gabrielle Fenech, Jesscut, Xue’ and Charles & Ron on July 9.

The Malta Fashion Awards will be held on July 11. Awards will be given in various categories, such as best female and male models, best photo model, best content creator, best stylist, best hair stylist and best make-up artist.

Gozo Food Festival

Xewkija will once again host the Gozo Food Festival on July 10 and 11.

The two-day celebration, which kicks off at 6pm,  brings together a mix of local and international food stalls, artisan markets and live music.

The festival is organised with the support of the Ministry for Gozo, ECO Gozo and the Xewkija local council. 

Entrance is free.
