On Tuesday, my husband and I were involved in an accident that could have been fatal. We were driving along St Domenika Street in Victoria, when a horse smashed into our car.

The damage to the car is extensive and it goes without saying that we both were in a huge shock.

The policeman who inspected the accident informed us that if the owner of the horse, an 18-year-old, did not willingly pay for the damages, we would need to institute a court case against him since he is not insured.

I am searching for some answers: just as with a car, drivers are obliged to hold an insurance policy, shouldn't horse owners who wish to walk their horses on public roads hold some kind of insurance policy too?

What is the purpose of the horse racetrack in Nadur Road if horses are walked on the roads? Should we continue to allow horses to be walked on our streets, considering how dangerous they can be?

But maybe, as with everything in this country, we are waiting for a fatal accident to set up regulations and enforce them!
