Obesity is one of the most common health concerns in Malta, and two university students have exposed just how we tend to stuff our faces over the Christmas period through a 40-second video.

Bad eating habits persist throughout the year, however, over the festive season, even the healthiest people have a tendency to over-indulge in food and drink.

The clip shows how we can get through more than 5,000 calories in a day, double the recommended daily intake.

"There is also a mentality that over-consuming small portions of food throughout the day is not a bad thing. As the Maltese say "Ħu oħra, dawk żgħar, lanqas idurulek maż-żokkra! (take another one, they're not going to fill you up),"  Daniela Cutajar and Jessica Azzopardi explained.

"For this reason our video focuses on pointing out how much an average person may actually consume on Christmas day, by showing all the food together along with the number of calories it contains. Hopefully this video will make people think about how much they actually eat and that every little bit counts."

Daniela Cutajar and Jessica Azzopardi are students from the Department of Digital Arts, Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences. The video was created in conjunction with Times of Malta.
