Two local wardens had to be treated in hospital after they were assaulted by a taxi driver in St Paul's Bay yesterday morning, the Local Councils Association said.

The association condemned the aggression which, it said, occurred when the two local wardens were called to a traffic accident.

Association president Ian Micallef explained that the two wardens were assaulted by a taxi driver who was involved in the accident when they went on site and started drawing a sketch of the accident.

The two wardens had to be taken to St Luke's Hospital to be treated for injuries.

The association expressed its solidarity with the wardens and urged them to continue doing their job without fear in the interest of citizens.

It also called on the Malta Tourism Authority to take action.

The association is proposing harsh penalties for acts of aggression against policemen, members of the army and local wardens.
