The Malta Transport Authority said parties interested in obtaining site approvals for the erection of billboards needed to apply at the traffic management directorate.

The authority said it had noted that over the past few weeks a number of billboards had been placed on certain sites without the directorate's prior consent or site approval.

It said it would take any necessary action against billboard advertising companies which did not seek its prior consent.

The authority said it was committed to the provision of a safe land transport system and believed that billboard sites should be strategically placed in order to safeguard against risks to pedestrians and drivers alike.
