The Unscheduled Bus Service yesterday warned it would be forced to give directives to its members if the government allowed public buses to make unscheduled trips.
The warning was made following an extraordinary general meeting in which the UBS committee appealed to the government to stop trying to solve the problem of the excessive number of buses by allowing them to carry out unscheduled trips. Too many vehicles were operating the unscheduled service and this meant the sector was already running at a loss, the UBS said.
Last week bus owners stopped their service at 6 p.m. every evening over demands for higher compensation to make up for escalating costs. The action was lifted after the Prime Minister accepted to meet their representatives.
