Warrants presented to new veterinarians
Warrants recognise 'essential role' of the profession, ministry says
Warrants have been issued to new veterinarians at a ceremony on Tuesday.
The Animal Welfare Ministry said in a statement that the event recognised the “dedication, perseverance and professional sacrifices” of those obtaining their warrants, many of whom had completed studies in Malta and abroad.
The warrants recognise the “essential role these professionals play in safeguarding public health, animal health and animal welfare in Malta”, the ministry said.
Animal Rights Minister Anton Refalo said the profession played a fundamental role within the public health system, particularly within the “farm to fork” concept to ensure food products are safe, of high quality and compliant with food safety standards.
He praised the veterinarians’ ongoing dedication to the profession.
Refalo also referred to continuous government investment in the sector, including work to introduce a new veterinary course in collaboration between MCAST and the University of Barcelona, accredited by the EU.
He said the new course would strengthen educational opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan students who previously had to travel overseas to pursue their careers.
Chairman of the Veterinary Council, Natalino Caruana de Brincat, thanked the newly warranted veterinarians for their commitment to the high standards of the profession and reiterated that the granting of the warrant was a symbol of trust, responsibility and professional ethics.
