The COVID-19 pandemic gave us a glimpse of a world without plays, concerts and exhibitions. No one wants to go back there. But Europe’s cultural sector is threatened by funding cuts and AI, and many artists simply can’t afford to keep making art.

So where’s the best place to be an artist in Europe? Right now, it might be Ireland – if you’re one of the lucky ones. The country is rolling out a basic income scheme for 2000 creatives chosen at random. Could that be the solution to a struggling arts sector?
