Hooded men brazenly broke glass and stole items as horrified passers-by looked on
Burglars armed with hammers smashed the front window of a London jewellers in broad daylight this past weekend, with footage of the brazen theft quickly going viral.
The theft of Gregory & Co jewellers in Richmond took place at about 10.30am on Saturday, Met Police said.
Video of the incident showed two hooded men using a hammer to smash the tempered glass display window of the store. As one of the men peeled back the shattered glass, a staff member inside the store sought to bat them away using a small object.
The other man then scooped items from the shop window into a blue bag and the men quickly made their getaway, running off on foot.
The Met Police confirmed it is investigating the theft and urged people with information about the crime to get in touch.
“Officers were called at 10:34hrs on Saturday, 31 January after suspects smashed the front window of the store and stole a number of items,” the police said in a statement.
“No injuries were reported.
“Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 2478/31Jan.
"To remain anonymous, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. There have been no arrests.”
