Tassles twirled, glitter flew and the audience whooped as Maltese and international Burlesque artists took to the stage at Spazju Kreattiv yesterday for the premier of this year's edition of MalTease, Malta's only fully-fledged burlesque show.

The show brought together a number of artists with routines that varied from classical to humorous and political, as well as singers Hank and Larissa and a magic routine. Colin Fitz hosts the show and there is also a satiric appearance by actor Joe Depasquale, with references to the current over-development saga in Malta aplenty.

Malta's own Undine la Verve received raucous cheers for her two routines, elegant and humorous in turn. Also popular was the magnificent Molly Moonstone, as well as choreographies to Lady Gaga and Die Antwoord classics.

A Q&A with the performers followed the show, emphasising the fact that - contrary to some beliefs - burlesque is neither 'just a strip-tease show' and much less degrading to women. The art is known for celebrating all women, all body-shapes and all abilities, offering performers the empowerment to enjoy doing that which they love best.

The show takes place again this evening and tomorrow at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.

Tickets are available online.
