Dashcam footage of a van driver's diabolical driving has got tongues wagging on local social media feeds.

Shot using both a front- and rear-facing camera, the footage shows the transport van come within a whisker of causing a crash through a shocking overtaking manoeuvre.

The slickly-edited video highlights the van's number plate and switches between rear and front views, showing the van bear down on the vehicle before it zips into the opposing lane of traffic to overtake.

Rather than settle for overtaking just the one vehicle, the van driver goes for broke and pushes ahead to overtake a second - despite another van heading down the opposite lane.

The transport driver zig-zags between the two vehicles with barely inches to spare, as the two other vehicles come to a standstill, their drivers presumably in shock.

According to Transport Malta's website, drivers of passenger transport vehicles with more than nine seats must have a certificate of professional competence to be eligible for a driver's permit.

The video was uploaded to Facebook by RPM Malta, which in a comment said it had passed a copy of the footage to police.

At the time of writing, it had been shared more than 1,000 times.
