Joan Edmundsson has identified striker Michael Mifsud as the biggest threat posed by Malta as the Arminia Bielefeld forward has set his sights on leading the Faroe Islands to a crucial victory in their UEFA Nations League opener at the Tosvallur Stadium in Torshavn on Friday (kick-off: 8.45pm).

The 27-year-old became the first player from the Faroe Islands to move to German football when he joined Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga 2 and he has already left a good impression as in his first four appearances with his new club he has netted two goals.

“I’m really looking forward to play for my country in the UEFA Nations League against Malta,” Edmundsson said.

“As a national team player you are always excited to represent your country and I am really looking forward to the match.

“In international football it is always difficult to get results and I expect a difficult match. Our group is very tight and all teams are capable of finishing top so it will be imperative for us to winning our home matches starting with our game against Malta.”

Asked on who he thinks will be the major threat for Faroes Islands on Friday night, Edmundsson said: “We still have to watch some video games on Malta to see their strengths and weakness but when you see their team sheet you always have to mention Michael Mifsud.

“He has scored a lot of goals throughout his career and this summer he also managed to find the net against KI Klaksvik in the Europa League so he will be the one we have to keep an eye on.”
