Valletta secured a 2-0 win over Gżira United in the YoHealth Malta Premier League held at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

The clock marked 54 minutes when the Brazilian striker saw Gżira goalkeeper Karl Sargeant out of his place, before hitting a spectacular lob from mid-pitch.

The ball flew over the back-tracking Sargeant and into the net, triggering an outpouring of cheers and applause from Valletta fans.

The goal was Mesiah's 11th of the season, putting him at the top of the scorers' list.

Jackson Mendoza added a second goal six minutes later to secure a crucial win for Valletta that lifted them to fourth place in the Closing Round, just two points behind second-placed Hamrun Spartans and Marsaxlokk.
